Emo Labs is a well-funded startup company that has developed a completely new type of thin loudspeaker. This novel speaker technology enables new classes of consumer electronics products that combine audio, video, and wireless systems all in one elegant solution.
We are a diverse engineering team in a development / lab environment that is looking for a seasoned electrical engineer. The position requires a significant degree of individual judgment and offers the opportunity to work on challenging technical problems.
We are looking for a motivated person who wants the opportunity to make a major contribution to the launch of cutting edge products.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Design high voltage power amplifiers for driving the piezoelectric actuators used in Emo Labs’ loudspeakers
- Create designs that meet product requirements, e.g., features, performance, cost targets, and regulatory compliance
- Create designs that can fit in a small space while still operating within tight thermal constraints
- Participate in the selection of vendors
- Select and qualify components (both passive and active components)
- Debug prototypes
- Generate design documentation, including bills of materials, component and assembly specifications, schematics, and PCB layouts
- Support designs once they are in production
Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience designing audio amplifiers that have been incorporated into mass-produced consumer electronics products
- Background designing switching power supplies and switching power amplifiers (Class D), including the design of heat sinks and other thermal management strategies
- Background designing PCB’s, particularly in regards to best practices that result in optimized low-noise performance
- Strong working knowledge of magnetic components
- Strong working knowledge of the safety and compliance requirements for domestic and international markets
- Experience designing electronics for portable applications is desired but not required
Education
Qualified candidates must have a BSEE

We are a diverse engineering team in a development / lab environment that is looking for a transducer engineer with a background in consumer audio products. The position requires a significant degree of individual judgment and offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of issues.
We are looking for a motivated person who wants the opportunity to make a major contribution to the launch of cutting edge products.
Job Responsibilities
- Be a lead contributor in the research and development of a new type of audio transducer
- Perform acoustical measurements and communicate findings to the rest of the team
- Help establish experimental plans
- Fabricate parts and prototypes in a laboratory setting (when appropriate)
- Participate in the selection of vendors
- Support designs once they are in production
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years experience in the design and manufacture of home and/or automotive transducers
- Strong understanding of the underlying principles of electro-mechanical-acoustical systems
- Strong report writing and organizational skills
- Desired: Experience with FEA in structural dynamics, acoustics, and/or piezo materials
Travel
Some domestic and international travel required
Education
Qualified candidates must have a BSEE, BSME, or Physics degree
